Covid-19 Impacts IHAA: We need your help

This is not a normal request.  Covid-19 prompted many of our residents – international students – to leave before leases are up. Remaining students are now here without resources for the duration of this crisis, and U-M classes went online leaving our beds empty for the summer. We don’t know how long this will last, or if students can return this Fall. Without rent, IHAA faces difficult times. But with your help, we will weather this crisis.

Can we count on you for a donation (whatever amount you can give) to help bridge our funding until classes begin again and we can return to full occupancy?

“I told my parents in Vietnam that I am really lucky to live at the International House where I am protected and cared. It would never be the same if I lived at a random rent accommodation.”  – IHAA Resident, Vietnam

When President Trump barred Europeans from entering the U.S., one of our residents jumped on a plane for his home country. Other IHAA residents left when they could but those remaining are here without nearby family support or funds for basic needs. We are helping to meet immediate needs, to continue to provide programming, albeit digitally, and to reassure and engage our residents in safe, distanced ways.

“…especially in this uncertain time…I deeply appreciate all the work and regular virtual meetings that the IHAA management staff have done so far.” – IHAA Resident, Vietnam

IHAA needs your help to survive. There are no extra funds in our budget to handle the sudden loss of revenue. Your gift today will provide instant support as we make necessary changes and sacrifices to serve our community – an exemplary living learning leading community that benefits residents, and the local and global community with cultural understanding, global awareness, and international friendship.

“The GEU [Global Engagement for Understanding] program and living at IHAA has broadened my perspective…It has opened doors to build empathy and a more conscious viewpoint of the world and its diversity through an array of activities for interaction and communication.” – IHAA Resident, Guatemala

Our mission brings people together – especially in crisis. Not only are our remaining residents joining video meetings to check in on each other but so too are many who left early, joining from their home countries. This is the kind of caring global community the world needs now and IHAA engenders.

“I attend…events because I want to learn from people from other cultures.” – IHAA Resident, Indonesia

During this unprecedented time, we ask for your help to keep IHAA going. We wish everyone good health. Your gift is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
