Social events are opportunities to enjoy meeting each other! These events bring IHAA residents and non-residents (members of the campus and local communities) together to build cross-cultural friendships. Some of our featured programs include:

Community Meals
A collection of residents and non-residents plan and cook a free meal at IHAA for the wider international community. These monthly meals feature a different cultural cuisine and attract both residents, friends, and members of the local community.

International Coffee Hour
In concert with the International Center at UM, GEU hosts an International Coffee Hour for residents and non-residents to come together in a relaxed atmosphere. Participants can meet and build cross-cultural friendships.  See what your Alumni Council Member says about International Coffee Hours.

International Picnic
One of GEU’s most popular events is the Annual International Picnic hosted by IHAA and the International Center at University of Michigan. This social gathering helps residents and non-residents meet new people and learn about upcoming opportunities, events, and programs at IHAA.

Cultural & Service Expeditions
Trips to explore different cultures locally, regionally, and nationally are regular features of GEU. Past trips have included day visits to Detroit, Isabella Native American Reservation, and Museums in and around Ann Arbor. Week-long trips include visits to Toronto, Washington DC, and the Louisiana Bayou. Each adventure includes opportunities to learn about the people and politics of the culture as well opportunities to be of service to these local communities and to have fun!

Spontaneous Programs
Many programs are initiated and led by IHAA Residents. It is not unusual to find residents and/or non-resident friends of IHAA enjoying shared meals in the common kitchen, gathering to watch the World Cup, or organizing study groups in one of our many common spaces.
